Top 3 Exercises People Use Bad Form with While Losing Weight
As a personal trainer, it’s easy to correct other people’s form while they exercise to lose weight. However, sometimes I catch myself in the mirror using worse form than I think. It can be hard to make sure you’re using good form is there is no one around to help you out.
I’m going to give you my top 3 exercises that are most commonly done with bad form, and of course how to fix it!
The form on the right is often one used by beginners that haven’t been taught the proper form. Doing it the wrong way can lead to bad knee problems down the road if you don’t correct it.
#2: Body-weight Squats
People’s knees tend to buckle in when they’re inexperienced or have muscle imbalances. Your knees should track over your toes and your knees shouldn’t travel past your toes, keep everything in line. You can even slightly point your toes outwards a bit if that allows you to squat deeper.
As you can see, the back isn’t straight and the hands are too far in front of you.
You can also have poor form doing the opposite (butt too far down with a curved back and/or hands too far down).
Don’t get upset if you find out you’ve been doing one of these wrong, just fix it and keep going! Better to catch it now than later when you have structural problems!
